About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Estimating & Design Manager to lead our estimating, design coordination, and business development functions within the hydraulic services sector. This role is critical in ensuring accurate project pricing, compliant and efficient design delivery, and the continued growth of our client base. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with commercial acumen and leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities
Estimating, Sales & Business Development

  • Lead preparation of detailed quantity take-offs from tender drawings, identifying design gaps and inconsistencies.
  • • Review and validate estimating outputs, ensuring all hydraulic services scope is
  • Analyse project documentation (drawings, specifications, contracts) and prepare clear inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering initiatives.
  • • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.
  • • Monitor market trends, including material costs and labour rates, to inform pricing
  • • Conduct post-project cost reviews to refine estimating accuracy and margin
  • • Prepare and submit high-quality tenders and formal quotations within required
  • Lead client engagement during the tender phase, including clarifications, negotiations, and tender meetings.
  • • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to secure repeat
  • • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking and proactive client
  • • Support company growth by contributing to sales strategies and pipeline development.

Design Management
The hydraulic design is outsourced to external consultants, who are responsible for the
execution, certification and declaration of the design. This role is responsible for overseeing and
managing the external consultants to insure the successful delivery of the design

  • • Oversee hydraulic services design from post-tender through to Issued for Construction
  • • Ensure compliance with the NCC, Australian Standards, and project-specific
  • • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure fully integrated design
  • • Attend and contribute to design coordination meetings.
  • • Review and approve shop drawings prior to submission.
  • • Ensure timely delivery of design documentation, certifications, and approvals.
  • • Drive value engineering and buildability improvements.
  • • Manage design changes and ensure accurate documentation updates.
  • • Provide technical support to site teams and resolve design queries.
  • • Identify and price variations arising from design changes.

Project Support

  • • Provide technical and commercial support during construction.
  • • Assist with procurement strategies and cost control.
  • • Support variation pricing, claims, and cost forecasting.
  • • Monitor and proactively resolve design-related risks.
Key Requirements

  • • Proven experience in estimating and/or design management within hydraulic services
  • (essential).
  • • Demonstrated experience in tendering, cost planning, and commercial management.
  • • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • • Strong network within the construction, hydraulic, or building services industry
  • • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • • High level of commercial awareness and attention to detail
